About the Scheme
Brief
Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) 4.0 is the latest phase of India's flagship skill development initiative, launched to empower youth with industry-relevant skills between FY 2022–2026. It emphasizes a "candidate-centric" approach, focusing on flexibility, on-the-job training (OJT), and emerging "New Age" technologies
Objectives
- Equip youth with industry-designed quality skills to help them secure better livelihoods
- Encourage standardized certification processes and create a national registry of skills
- Bridge the gap between industry demand and workforce supply through flexible, market-oriented training
- Prepare youth for international opportunities by setting up 30 Skill India International Centres
Eligibility Criteria
- Must be an Indian citizen
- Age between 15 and 45 years
- Unemployed youth, school/college dropouts, and individuals looking for fresh skilling or upskilling
- Candidates must have a valid Aadhaar card and an Aadhaar-linked bank account
Benefits
- Free Training: The government bears the complete cost of training and assessment fees
- Certification: Industry-recognized National Skill Certification and a Skill India card upon successful completion
- Support for Special Groups: Provisions for boarding, lodging, and transport allowances for women and Persons with Disabilities (PwD)
- Entrepreneurship Support: Orientation and capacity building to encourage self-employment and enterprise creation
