About the Scheme
Brief
PMMVY is a Central Sector maternity benefit scheme implemented by the Ministry of Women & Child Development to provide partial wage compensation and promote health and nutrition among pregnant and lactating women.
Objectives
- Improve maternal and child health
- Compensate for wage loss during pregnancy and after childbirth
- Encourage early registration of pregnancy, ANC check-ups, and institutional delivery
- Promote exclusive breastfeeding and proper nutrition
Eligibility Criteria
- Pregnant and lactating women (excluding those in regular government employment)
- For the first living child (as per scheme norms)
- Must be 19 years or above
- Applicable to eligible beneficiaries across India
Benefits
- First Child: ₹5,000 provided in two instalments:
i. Instalment 1: ₹3,000 after at least one Ante-Natal Check-up (ANC)
ii. Instalment 2: ₹2,000 after childbirth and completion of the first cycle of universal immunisation
- Second Child: ₹6,000 in a single instalment, provided only if the second child is a girl
- Combined Benefit: Beneficiaries are also entitled to additional cash incentives under the Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY), bringing the average total benefit to approximately ₹6,000 for the first child
