About the Scheme
Brief
The Prime Minister’s Internship Scheme (PMIS) is a nationwide initiative launched by the Government of India to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry requirements by providing youth with hands-on experience in the corporate sector
Objectives
- To boost the employability of Indian youth
- To provide hands-on experience in real-world business environments
- To foster skills needed for the modern job market, enhancing the "Skill Capital of the World" vision
- To provide financial independence and professional networking opportunities to interns
Eligibility Criteria
- Indian citizen, aged 21 to 24 years, who is not employed full-time or engaged in regular, full-time education
- Must have passed Class 10, Class 12, an ITI certificate, a polytechnic diploma, or a graduation degree (BA, B.Sc, B.Com, etc.)
- The annual family income of the applicant, parents, or spouse must not exceed ₹8 lakh for FY 2023-24
- Exclusions: Individuals are ineligible if they hold higher qualifications (Masters, CA, MBBS, etc.), graduated from elite institutions (IITs, IIMs, NLU, etc.), have a family member in a permanent government job, or are already part of other government training programs.
- Special Condition: Candidates in online or distance learning programs are permitted
Benefits
- A 12-month training program featuring practical, real-world industry experience
- Monthly assistance of ₹5,000, comprising ₹4,500 via direct benefit transfer (DBT) and ₹500 from corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds
- A one-time ₹6,000 allowance for incidentals is included, along with comprehensive insurance coverage
- Participants receive a completion certificate following the program
