About the Scheme
Brief
The National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme-2 (NAPS-2) is a revamped, 100% centrally funded scheme under the Skill India Programme designed to boost on-the-job training and skill development
Objectives
- Enhancing industry-relevant skills via on-the-job training (OJT)
- Sharing stipend costs to encourage employer participation
- Boosting participation in smaller enterprises and underserved regions
- Enabling candidates, including PMKVY pass-outs, to up-skillkers
Eligibility Criteria
Apprentices:
- Individuals aged 14–35 years (18+ for hazardous work)
- Minimum 5th-grade education
- Aadhaar-based e-KYC is mandatory
Establishments:
- Must register on the Apprenticeship Portal
- Comply with the Apprentices Act, 1961
Benefits
- Stipend Reimbursement: The government provides 25% of the stipend, up to ₹1,500 per month, via DBT
- Training Costs: Basic training costs (up to ₹7,500 for 3 months) may be covered for freshers
